Arnold from "Hey Arnold"
This is a easy costume if you've got blonde hair. First find a red flannel, pair of blue jeans, black shoes, and a teal(or blue-ish) sweater. You probably have the shoes and jeans. If you don't have the rest of the outfit, visit your local thrift store. Now for the hat. I found this awesome tutorial that you only need construction paper and a paper fastener! To keep the hat in place, tie string or glue it to an old headband. You could also use a regular size hat too, although I think the little hat adds to the Hey! Arnold flare. Once you've got that completed, time for the hair...if you have short blonde hair, part it down the middle and spike it with gel/hairspray. If you have longer hair, braid it into pigtails of your own style. Wahla, instant football head! (well, kinda..i'll post a real picture later)
Jack-O-Lantern
My friend Cheryl came up with this easy idea a couple of months ago..She was hosting a "Jack Party"..anyone who came had to dress up as a "jack" and we were JackOLanterns! First go buy an orange shirt. Short sleeve, long sleeve, dress, whatever. As long as its orange and you wont be sad to re-create it into something else. Plan your jackolanters face. Be silly, scary, simple, sad, etc. Visit any craft store to buy felt with sticky backing (or regular felt and some fabric glue). While you're there pick up some green pipe cleaners. Go home and get DIY-ing. Cut out the face from the felt, put it to your orange shirt, try it on lots of times. Find a simple headband (or make one out of pipe cleaners) adding curly pumpkin ques and a leaf. When you carve your real pumpkin, make a twin! You can carry it around with you for the night and introduce it to friends as your boyfriend!
(bad picture not made with felt but you get the point?)
Ghost
Be a ghost using the same technique above but with a white shirt. You can be cute and spooky. Easy as booberrypie!
Zombie
Getting this costume ready is as fun as being it. Bree, Laura and I dressed up as the walking dead for Pittsburgh's Zombie Walk. Go to a costume shop and buy some Liquid Latex. I bought more than enough for about $7. Play around with this stuff, its so much fun. (BTW don't apply to hair, it hurts a lot when you take it off) Use toilet paper/quilted paper towels/tissue for bigger wounds, apply with a glue stick. Get some black, red, purple, green, white face paint and layer these colors. Make blood using 3 parts corn syrup, 1 part water, and red food coloring. Create brains by making rice krisipie treats and adding red food coloring. The neat thing about this costume is you can make anything a zombie. So be an Arnold zombie, if ya want!
Adventure Time
My friend Bree and I are being Finn and Jake from Adventure Time. A friend showed me a tutorial for Finn's Hat. I made the backpack myself and will be making a sword. The rest of the outfit is easy. Bree's being Jake and her costume in progress is looking awesome. So excited for Halloween this year! Tons of adventures to be had in Pittsburgh.
I know that some people say that Halloween is the "one day of the year that girls can dress like total sluts and have it be okay" but I don't believe that. Keep it classy, only certain people want to see your cheeks and these probably aren't the people you want to be around..there's a difference between slutty and sexy!
If you have any costume ideas, share the wealth! Or if you try any of these ideas I'd love to see pictures :)
